About the Role

 

Centennial is recruiting for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Technical Services Team at Mandalong Mine.

 

This role will provide specialist geotechnical leadership and technical support to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of underground development and extraction activities. You will be responsible for managing geotechnical systems, plans, compliance and budgets while supporting the achievement of the Mine’s Business Plan objectives.

 

Working as an effective member of the mine management team, you will ensure activities within your area of responsibility are aligned to the overall best interests of the mine. This includes monitoring systems and business processes, identifying improvement opportunities, and implementing practical solutions that enhance operational performance.

 

Conveniently located in the Lake Macquarie region, a short drive from Newcastle and the Central Coast, this role is an excellent opportunity to work in an Underground Longwall-based mining operation.

 

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, your responsibilities will include:


•    Manage and maintain the mine’s geotechnical model including lithologies, geomechanical properties, structures and stress conditions
•    Analyse underground inspections and drilling results to identify immediate and medium-term strata control risks
•    Develop strata advice, support plans and remedial actions where required
•    Assist in preparing Panel Hazard Plans for development panels and longwall blocks
•    Review and update Ground / Strata Failure Management Plans and associated TARPs
•    Implement Mine Safety and Environmental Management Systems within area of responsibility
•    Maintain statutory compliance and Centennial standards, including PHMP requirements
•    Develop and improve geotechnical systems, procedures, standards and templates
•    Provide technical mentorship and development support to geological and geotechnical personnel
•    Investigate industry advancements and implement practical improvements where beneficial
•    Communicate panel hazards and geotechnical information to supervisors and crews through presentations and discussions

Suitable candidates will have


•    Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering or Geology
•    Post Graduate qualification in Underground Mining Geomechanics
•    Minimum five years’ underground mining experience in geotechnical investigation, design and analysis
•    Proven experience managing direct reports and contractors
•    Strong understanding of strata control, geotechnical risk management and underground mining systems
•    Sound computer literacy skills including AutoCAD and geological / geotechnical databases
•    Commitment to site safety, operational practices and production targets
•    Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, suited to multiple audiences
•    Ability to work effectively within a team or independently
