We are currently recruiting for a Legal Counsel to join the Centennial team and support a broad scope of legal, compliance and corporate governance matters.
This opportunity, working in-house from our Sydney CBD corporate office, is a perfect next career step for a proficient and analytical legal professional to assist with a range of legal matters and work in alignment with the executive management team and key internal and external counsel.
Reporting to the Executive General Counsel, you will be responsible for
• Assisting in the management and conduct of legal, governance and regulatory matters affecting the Centennial Group
• Assisting in providing legal advice to management and the various business units within the Group on a broad range of matters, including procurement, transactional matters, operational projects, sales and marketing, joint ventures, environment and approvals, mining and property, WHS and compliance
• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements
• Ensuring management is kept up to date about significant legal and regulatory developments that may affect the Group’s business
• Assisting with ongoing legal compliance training within the Group
• Coordinating and managing external lawyers
• Working in a proactive, collaborative manner to identify and manage legal risk and requirements in key business activities

Suitable candidates will have
• Tertiary level Legal qualifications
• Minimum 6 years’ experience in a reputable law firm or inhouse team
• Strong commercial acumen and document drafting and reviewing skills
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Ability to work autonomously, as well as with others as an effective team member, and the ability to manage external stakeholders
• Efficient organisation skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Previous in-house or secondment experience preferred
• Experience in the mining or energy and resources industries will be highly regarded
